All federal aging monies flow from Washington and the Administration on Aging to regional offices throughout the country and then to the state units. The dollars are divided, in accordance with state formulae, and distributed locally to Area Agencies on Aging. In the late 1970's, the Florida Legislature passed the Community Care for the Elderly Act which funds services for frail dependent seniors. In addition, beginning in the 1980's, the Alzheimer's Disease Initiative Legislation became a source of state dollars for Alzheimer's Respite Programs. Matching Funds for both Older Americans Act and Community Care for the Elderly Appropriations must be raised locally.
